Holly Jolly Craft Show

The Holly Jolly Craft Show will take place November 12th & 13th in the South Fork Community Center Ballroom (indoors).

Rabies Vaccination Clinic - Forsyth County

On Saturday, October 30, there will be a Rabies Vaccination Clinic for dogs and cats only that are 3 months of age or older. All dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers. The clinic will be held at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds in the Cattle Barn in Winston-Salem from 11AM until 3PM. Enter at Gate #9 on 27th Street. For more information, call 336.703.3110. Green 'N' Growing

4-H and Home Demonstration, dating from the early twentieth century, were established to instruct children and women in agricultural practice and home economics. Land grant universities, like North Carolina State University, with the support of the United States Department of Agriculture, ran Agricultural Extension Services (later renamed Cooperative Extension Service), which administered 4-H clubs and Home Demonstration programs. The site presents thousands of images and textual materials that document the history of 4-H and Home Demonstration in North Carolina from the 1900s to the 1970s. Users will also find a timeline of events, a collection of original historical essays, an annotated bibliography, and guides for primary resources held by the North Carolina State University Special Collections Research Center.

Taste Carolina Wine Festival

The same organizers with the Annual North Carolina Wine Festival at Tanglewood Park are pleased to announce the return of another popular wine festival in the Triad area. The 8th Annual Taste Carolina Wine Festival has been an April event in the past, but at the request of the wineries has become an annual fall event. This is the perfect time for a wine festival, now that harvest is over and the weather is cooler. It's also another great opportunity to meet winemakers, vineyard owners, and taste and compare offerings from 17 North Carolina wineries, all in one place and on one day. The current lineup of the 17 wineries that have committed to be present and provide samplings are: Autumn Creek Vineyards, Cellar 4201 Vineyards, Chateau Laurinda, Duplin Winery, Grove Winery, Lumina Winery, Native Vines Winery, Raintree Cellars, Rocky River Vineyards, Shadow Springs Vineyards, Slightly Askew Winery, Southern Charm Winery, Stonefield Cellars, Stony Mountain Vineyards, Thistle Meadow Winery, Weathervane Winery and Woodmill Winery. GHOST STORIES AT BLANDWOOD

Local storyteller Cynthia Moore Brown treats families to ghostly tales of spine-tingling spookiness in Blandwood’s front parlor. GO EXPO a Success!

In case you missed it... Buffalo Gal's Soap was at the GO Expo in Winston-Salem. We were in the Go Bloom section along with other local farmers. A follow-up from Forsyth County Cooperative Extension... GO EXPO a Success! by Wendi Hartup As part of this past Saturday’s GO EXPO, Cooperative Extension had a giant section called GO BLOOM. We offered displays of ways you could green your garden by learning how to make your yard a more sustainable and fruitful environment. There were signs up for the Local 10 Percent campaign – a move to keep more of our grocery dollars here in North Carolina. Forsyth County Master Gardeners were available to offer gardening tips and folks were able to browse displays of products and services about composting, conserving water, community gardening, growing and preserving food, sustainable landscaping and more. Music For Mutts

The 4th Annual Music For Mutts will be held on Saturday, October 16, from 12 noon until 4PM in Central Park in King, NC. This is a fundraiser event for Animal Rescue of Stokes County. Music will be provided by Taylor Vaden Band and Rainjacket. From 2 - 4PM, you will be able to meet Susie from "Susie's Law". Food will be provided by the Chestnut Grove Ruritan Club. Growing Grapes

On Tuesday, October 12th, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Carver School Road Branch Library, Forsyth Extension Master Gardener Volunteer and Landscape Designer, Marcia Wood will present a 1 to 1 1/2 hour presentation on Growing Grapes in the Landscape as part of a Series of Home and Garden programs for the Fall 2010 Season. The Master Gardener Volunteers and Extension Agents will be presenting 28 programs in the 10 county libraries. The speakers are presenting 16 different topics that are timely for local gardeners. Home grown fruit, especially grapes, are so much better when you pick them fresh from your own vines. Find out how to grow them in your home garden. Preparing the soil, amendments like fertilizer, how many vines you need, pruning, and harvesting are all discussed with this program. Autumn Leaves Festival

The Autumn Leaves Festival showcases our rich musical heritage, such as Old-Time, Blue Grass and Gospel performed by local musicians on the downtown Mt. Airy stage; the unique arts & crafts of more than 170 craftsmen line the streets with many demonstrating their talents and skills passed down through the generations; then there is "Food for the Soul", ham biscuits, collards & cornbread, barbeque, hamburgers, ground steak and more served with hospitality by our local civic and other community groups. Harvest Festival at Shelton Vineyards

During the Harvest Festival, there will be hand crafted items available for purchase. Pumpkins and locally grown produce also available to purchase. Live bluegrass music can be enjoyed both days. Grape stomping, face painting are a few of the various activities we have planned. We will also feature Hay Rides through the vineyard. There will also be an antique tractor competition. Goats, Music and More is a festival held in Lewisburg, Tennessee yearly.
