BBQ Capital Cook-off

In a city renowned for its heritage of slow cooking pork shoulders over hickory wood that is known world wide as Lexington-style barbecue, it seems logical that a barbecue cook-off would take place on our streets!
If you love great barbecue, wine, and music, you’ll want to be in Lexington for the area’s first BBQ cook-off.

Sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS), the event is bringing competitive chefs and judges from across the United States. Barbecue vendors will enable you to taste a wide variety of types of barbecue. Other activities include a visit from the Johnsonville Brats Big Taste Grill, the Inaugural Southern Gateway Wine Festival, four bands, a classic motorcycle show, kids activities and much more!
This event is poised to become Lexington's spring compliment to the October Lexington Barbecue Festival that just celebrated their 27th anniversary with over 100,000 people!

Cobblestone Farmers Market

April 19th is Opening Day for Cobblestone Farmers Market (formerly named Krankies Farmers Market).  

We will be joining a lot of your favorite farmers from last year (and some new local farmers too) on a cobblestone road behind the Nissen Wagon Works building near the corner of Patterson and Third Street in downtown Winston-Salem.

This week a hot lunch will be available from Triad Community Kitchen, the menu is available here.

Piedmont Earth Day Fair

The annual Piedmont Earth Day Fair is coming to the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds for the first time on April 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fair, organized by the Piedmont Environmental Alliance and sponsored by the city of Winston-Salem, is a free, family-friendly outdoor event.

There’s a full day of entertainment, a variety of all-natural foods, and children’s activities to inspire our youngest citizens to take care of our planet. More than 100 exhibitors demonstrate the sustainable features of their products or services and share their passion for protecting the Earth.

More than 8,000 people attended last year’s fair. Parking is free and valet parking is available for cyclists. Bus transportation from downtown is also available. Visit the PEANC web site for more details.

Tour de Yadkin

An annual month-long river paddling event down the Yadkin River. April 2 to 30, paddlers can kayak or canoe with one of America’s leading river advocates, Dean Naujoks. Each weekend in April, the Riverkeeper will stop along the river for community festivities that celebrate a cleaner river. Sponsored by REI. Sunday April 3: Meet at Marley’s Ford and paddle from Ferguson to Kerr Scott Reservoir.

Mini Cobblestone Farmers Market today!

Come out today (Tuesday, April 12th) from 11 until 1 to a mini version of Cobblestone Farmers Market (formerly known as Krankies Farmers Market). We will be outside on the patio of Krankies Coffee in downtown Winston-Salem. Opening Day of Cobblestone Farmers Market is next week!

Shore Farms Organics will be selling bok choi, lettuce, cilantro, kale, mustard, rosemary, swiss chard, tomato starter plants and canned goods!

Crosscreek Farm will have grass-fed beef, pastured pork, free range eggs and Katadhin Lamb, Heritage Homestead's Feta, Gouda & Raw Milk Blue (goat cheeses). And she'll be bringing some baby ducks for show & tell!

Grace Meadow Farm will be selling grassfed ground beef, stew beef,steaks,roasts,soup bones,free range eggs and more!

We'll have our Buffalo Gal's goat's milk soap gift sets and bars--including some special ones for Spring Time and Easter!

Piedmont Farm Tour

The weather is warming up. Spring crops are popping up their heads. Baby animals are running around on pasture. What a great time to get out and see sustainable farms! What a great time to support and encourage small-scale growers!

The Piedmont Farm Tour is one week away: Saturday and Sunday April 16 to 17, 1 to 5 PM ! 40 great farms to choose from.
